For the non-calculator paper, the most productive revision strategy is timed practice without a calculator from the start of your preparation — do not use a calculator even when checking answers. This develops the mental speed and number sense the paper demands. Priority areas for non-calculator revision include fraction arithmetic (particularly multiplying mixed numbers and dividing by fractions), percentage calculations without a calculator (10% method extended: "find 10%, halve to get 5%, add to get 15%"), and simplifying algebraic expressions including expanding double brackets by inspection. For Paper 2, trigonometry is consistently the topic where students lose the most marks. The three SOHCAHTOA ratios apply only in right-angled triangles — identify which side is opposite, which is adjacent, and which is hypotenuse relative to the angle you are working with, not in the abstract. Always sketch the triangle and label the sides before choosing your ratio. If the angle is what you need, use the inverse function: angle = arcsin(opposite/hypotenuse). Multi-step questions require planning. Before writing calculations, ask: what is the final quantity I need? What information do I have? What intermediate steps connect them? For example, a question about a cylindrical water tank might require you to find the volume, convert to litres, then calculate how many minutes it takes to fill at a given flow rate — three distinct steps, each building on the last. Writing down intermediate results prevents compounding errors.
